My husband always seems to be able to pray and experience healing over himself. At the very least, he will receive a temporary reprieve when he is serving in God’s house. The smile and joy upon him as he shares this news with our church family!
However, I often find myself healing at the rate that matches the doctor’s orders. At a humanly rate.
Am I believing for it enough? Is it not God’s will for me?
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
Matthew 14:31 NIV
In those times where it felt like prayers went unanswered, I suppose God’s healing hand was still on me, as I did heal, just not on my time table. Even when I felt I was believing for it and entrusting it to Him. Each recovery, while not immediate, was my little miracle from above. He was healing!
God had a different plan for me in those times. As I mentioned in my previous post, it was a time for character development. For developing perservance. For refocusing and realigning my priorities back to Him.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
James 1:2-3 NIV
I’m reminded of the scene in Chosen where James was asking Jesus why He had not healed him. I’d like to think that Jesus is telling me something similar.
That He has trust in me to not lose faith when prayers go unanswered.
That times such as the long healing journey after an emergency surgery or reoccuring colds are all part of my testimony. What stories will come! God has uniquely worked in my life even in these circumstances where it feels on the contrary.
That I “still praise God in spite of this.”
But, I do have a healing story. My mindset should be that the little miracles mentioned earlier should be just as grand as this one. No comparisons. No overshadowing. Just thankfulness and joy.
To set the scene, I was attending a Disciple a City session where they asked if anyone had shoulder pain or right foot pain. At the time, my foot wasn’t that bad but I stood up as it was something that had bothered me over the last couple years on and off. Turns out, short person, tall shelf…. collapsed ankle. Anyways, after the leaders prayed, they asked those standing to test it out. I rotated my ankle and it cracked a few times. It was like I had a mini chiro session on the spot. Everything felt like it was back in the right place.
God used my injury for good. I wouldn’t have experienced His healing power if He hadn’t worked in my situation.
What healing stories do you have?
Grace and peace be upon you!
Jo
