There’s point A and there’s point B. It’s easy to envision and to live in these moments: the where-we-want-to-be and the what-is-missing in the here and now. Snapshots in time.

God gave us these dreams but we hold on so tightly and even maybe idolize them. We look at the outcomes of our work, the stats and views, the approval, if there’s enough money in the bank to get there and how far we need to go yet. These dreams that God gives us are often bigger than what we can do on our own so that we turn to Him, knowing that He can do it and that His promise holds true.

In our impatience to get to that vision, that point B, we can be blinded to or frustrated with what we do have.

In watching Ruslan’s interview with Forrest Frank and Cory Asbury with my husband, this topic was on my heart as we take small steps towards our goals and dreams. In their discussion, they talk about intention and where the heart is. A similar message was reiterated again in church the Sunday after to further drive the point home.

God has placed big and often seemingly, competing dreams within my husband and me. Both driven to do what needs to be done to get there. While drive isn’t necessarily a negative, we are learning we need to check in with ourselves and God often along the way. To aim to always be in His presence and to let Him handle the outcome of each step we take. It’s all too easy to get distracted by the end goal that we miss the in between. To be so focused on the where-we-want-to-be and the what-is-missing in the here and now that we start drifting from the path God’s trying to walk with us on. Often we stray when we are grasping for control when unknowingly and subconsciously, the fear that God won’t follow through creeps in.

Further, we need God to change our mindset to be that of a kingdom mentality. To be content and grateful with what we have now.

““Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭16‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

If views and stats are small to start, are we showing love and gratitude to those who are supporting and engaging with us. To those who engage but don’t necessarily agree, are we loving them too? Is God and loving others the center point or is success and end goals crowding out the real goal? Are we thankful for the opportunities and the love we are able to share now?

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We both have much to learn about God, ministry, discipleship, apologetics, love, grace, etc. before God fully opens the doors to point B. To be thankful and present in the in-between.

Grace and peace,

Jo

Jo, this is beautifully written! It definitely resonated with me and my own journey. Needing to have that Kingdom mentality instead of a worldly view. Thank you!
